Janet Jacob, MBA, RN
Jan Jacob, MBA, RN, is a patient safety expert and a long-time proponent of teamwork and evidence-based best practices to improve patient safety, healthcare quality and cost effectiveness. Her paradigm-shifting philosophy is patient-centric, with the goal of making the voice of the patient heard. Currently she is System Director of Clinical Excellence, at OhioHealth, a nationally recognized, not-for-profit, Columbus, Ohio-based organization of 18 hospitals, 23 health and surgery centers, and other services. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors, Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS), where her more than 30 years clinical and administrative experience is brought to bear on the nonprofit organization’s values of partnership and collaboration between healthcare consumers and dedicated professionals seeking to create healthcare systems that are safe, compassionate and just.
Jacob’s CV includes 25 years in healthcare including as corporate patient safety officer and senior director of Corporate Clinical Resources for Adventist Health System (AHS), where she provided leadership for numerous clinical initiatives, culminating in leading the organization’s journey in the Robert Wood Johnson/Johns Hopkins Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative (to eliminate Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections and demonstrated nursing causality in outcomes).
In addition, she co-authored “Implementing a Patient Safety Program at a Large National Health System,” which appears in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s online journal, “Web M&M (Morbidity and Mortality) Rounds on the Web.” Jacob’s early career includes serving in numerous hospital clinical operational roles, including JCAHO Coordinator. She earned her RN degree from Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York and BS in Healthcare Administration St. Leo College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She earned her MBA with Distinguished Honors from Webster University.
